2022- Conference- “Connectivity and Collectivity in Times of Crisis: Lebanese Emigrant Women’s Perception of Homeland Politics.”

 

Dr. Jessy Abouarab presented, on her behalf and that of Dr. Guita Hourani, a co-authored paper entitled “Connectivity and Collectivity in Times of Crisis: Lebanese Emigrant Women’s Perception of Homeland Politics” at the 63rd International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Convention, which took place in Nashville, Tennessee, from March 28th through April 2nd, 2022.

 

The research assessed Lebanese emigrants' views on current Lebanese affairs in light of the Port of Beirut explosion and the call by Hezbollah to align itself with the East (e.g., China, Iran, and Russia) instead of the West and the Arab states.

 

Using an online anonymous survey of Lebanese emigrants’ public opinion, the authors examine the responses of the women, who represented 30.8% (217/1004) of the total respondents, from the perspective of their geopolitical orientation and preferences, their confidence in the governing system and actors, and their predictions about the recovery of Lebanon.
